My dad has one of the best mandolins I've ever played, it is a 2003 Gibson F-9. I have also played some F-9s that I considered OK. I've never played an average Collings MT (I'm sure there are some out there, i just havent found one yet....they are amazingly consistent). Weber makes great mandolins at all price ranges.

I have not been able to warm up to the "modern" sound of the Collings. Haven't played a Weber. I'm really loving my recently acquired F-9.

Gibsons are great, but the F9 vs. a Webber BR? Me, I'd take the Bitterroot! But that's just me. Play them both. Listen to them both. Make an informed decision. Who cares what I think, trust yourself.
