They say no question is a stupid one, so here is one that I am going to ask.
Is there a standard height, and width for the sides on the F style?
I have seen 1-1/2" and 1-3/8" for height, and the width seems to vary a bit too.

    Best Regards

1-3/8 is "standard" for F models, 1-1/2 for oval hole a-models
Thickness varies quite a bit..some say 0.060-0.070 some 0.080 to 0.110..I like to take them down to about 0.085 and work from there.

What determines how much you "work them from there"? Are you shooting for bendability (is that a word? ) based on the wood used, or is there some other criteria that determines whether you stop at .085 or go down to .060?

Here is why I ask. This is a link to Stewmac's page for F-style mandolins. Check out the size. http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Bodies,_..._Mandolin.html
But, I think I will stick with what I have been using not the 1-1/2".

    thanks for the input
