Default Introspective Mandolin: "Things We Lost"

I have hesitated putting this out for awhile, it is pretty heart wrenching introspective stuff, and so have that in mind as you listen. Catharsis… big big catharsis

Anyway I discovered, making this track, the powerful effect of playing a two mandolin break with one mandolin playing the melody in tremolo and the other improvising, which I dug a lot. Tell me what you all think

    peace,
    br Michael Paul

Nicely done. Will you use it in worship? It would make an interesting introduction for the prayer of confession or the prayers of the people.

Thanks... as for the suggestion I try to keep my personal stuff and the liturgical in their own worlds, everyone stays happier that way. If you dug this, you should check out some of my other songs:

I like it! For some unknown reason it reminds me of Syd Barrett.

Pete, wow that compliment hits closer to home than you know. Pink Floyd has always been a huge inspiration to me. Ummagumma (especially Grantchester Meadows) is some of my favorite music off all time. Thanks brother that is super encouraging...

I'm glad you took it as a compliment. Sometimes people can take offense at a comparision and I'm glad that was not the case here. To be honest I think it's the quality of your singing that most reminded me of Syd. I like the song a lot and had it stuck in my head for a good hour or so afterwards.

...now if only someone would compare my singing to Tim O'Brien (not likely!).

Well while we're enjoying the official Tim O'Brien Fan Club here's my current favorite. I had the good fortune to interview him at Wintergrass several years ago and he did a solo performance of this song. Somewhere theres a video of it, but I can't seem to locate it the moment. I love this arrangement with both the bazouki and mandolin parts. His singing is just so effortless and beautiful.
