I hope the spalted is solid. Spalted wood can be pretty weak if it's gone too far.

That is a really interesting instrument, Yaron. Looked at you Picasa pictures but no interior shots of bracing - any more info on what sort of pattern you used? looking forward to hearing the mandolin now.
