Default Tex Logan's 85th Birthday Celebration

I was thrilled to attend Tex Logan's 85th Birthday Celebration last week.
There were hours and hours of music by a stunning list of luminaries.
Fortunately I captured several hours of video.
With Jody Logan's permission, here is Part 1...

Due to other obligations, it will take me a while to make the rest available, so please stay tuned.

I had the great pleasure of seeing & talking to Tex Logan over here in the UK years back when he came over with Peter Rowan.Oh boy !, what a great character.I didn't know much about him at that time, but with his musical pedigree,he's surely one of the 'elder statesmen' of Bluegrass music. Many thanks indeed for the YouTube clip (s),

    Lebeda F-5 "Special".

Cool! That's my friend Rick Campbell joining in with the fiddles for Come Along Jody at 15:30 - one of my favorite tunes.

Tex can still rip into a good fiddle tune. These are a couple of my pictures from the party, thrown by daughter Jody, and Peter Rowan.

    Tex demonstrates proper pizzicato technique:

I had the honor of attending previous Tex birthday parties where WSM & the BGB were the house band. Not too shabby!!!!!!

What a great string. I saw the Lilly Brothers play at the Toronto Mariposa folk festival in 1973. I'm thinking that they had Tex Logan and Don Reno with them at that event -- although I know the band had stopped full time touring by then?

Here is Part 4, my final video... http://youtu.be/OooehseXvgs

You can see all 4 parts HERE.

I'm gratified that I was able to capture and share so much, but sorry I missed what I gather was a lot more music after I left.

Eventually I hope to post individual songs, but that's going to take a while, so please be patient.

My thanks again to Jody Logan and Peter Rowan for inviting me, to all the musicians that performed,
and especially to the ever gracious Tex. It's an event I'll never forget!

I just remembered an appropriate photo I took at Berkshire 1980 that shows 3 of the performers at Tex's celebration...
