    Default Gotoh "Stealth" tuners.

I took my Guitar to my local luthiers a few days ago for a set up.While i was there we got talking about tuners & he showed me a tuner that he's just started to use,the Gotoh "Stealth" tuner.I know that there was a mention of these in a past thread, but has anybody used them on a Mandolin ?. They're the dinkiest little tuner i've seen to date & for lightness thay've got to be the best yet.Looking at them,it hardly seems possible to cram an 18:1 gear ratio into such a small space,

Ivan, how well did they work? I've not been that impressed by Gotoh's either their guitar or mandolin heads.... though maybe I'm just not spending enough

They do look a cool idea though, does your luthier have a UK supplier for those as I've not seen them?

    Cheers, John.

Hi Tavy - The 'Stealth' tuners cropped up as part of a general discussion. He does buy a lot of his materials etc. from Tonetech in Stockport, who do sell Gotoh tuners, but the Stealth ones aren't in their catalogue,so me might have bought them from somewhere else. Gotoh must have tried & tested them before they put them on the market,so i suppose they must be at least as good as their other tuners.'Touchstone Tonewoods' have them in stock.Apparently the max.tension they can take,is 44Lbs
which should be good enough for most Guitars,

Heavens, 44lb is more than enough for a mandocello, though I think I'd prefer something more chunky (bigger buttons) for the higher tension instruments. Might be interesting for a 10-stringer though.... but now I've seen the price.... maybe not.... £280 for the two sets that would be needed would be rather painful!
