Default Visiting Little Rock Arkansas May 6-8

    Hello Mandocafe,

I'll be in Little Rock May 6-8 and want to know if there are any bluegrass, oldtime, honky tonk, irish pub, cajun, or acoustic jams or get-togethers to check out. Those are Sun, Mon, Tues nights so maybe not a lot going on. I'll have a mandolin with me and also play upright bass and guitar if that would help the jam.

    Thanks,
    Zack

On the evening of Monday, May 7, 2012 at seven P.M., there is the monthly meeting of the Rackensack Folk Music Society at the Arkansas Arts Center in downtown Little Rock. This is acoustic instruments only and we do play old time folk music. You are welcome to join us if you want to. I am one of the bass players.

Hi Zack, my friend, Brode Morgan, is the president of the Rackensack Folklore Society here in Little Rock, I saw him this past weekend at the Mountain View, Arkansas 50th annual Folk Festival and mentioned your coming to Little Rock next week. He was excited to hear that you would be there. It is a rather informal gathering with group numbers and an opportunity to play on your own or with other members should you choose. You will enjoy it!

I was once a regular at these monthly meetings and their annual concert and now that I have taken to the mandolin I may just start attending again. Maybe I will see you there.

Hey Zack, I had a conflict with Rackensack last night. Did you make it?

Hello Sam, I did make it (later than I wanted) and had a good time. I met Brode and he was kind enough to accompany me on guitar on Goldrush and Billy in the Lowground. And then we played Arkansas Traveler and Soldier's Joy for the ending "hoedown" tunes. Lots of fun!

Brode is a true Arkansas treasure. Talented on guitar and fiddle. Glad you had fun. Maybe I will see you next time!

I am glad to read that you had a good time at the monthly Rackensack meeting, Zack. I was unable to be there because my father died on Saturday, April twenty-eighth and we had to travel out of town and out of state because he lived in San Antonio, Texas.

Thank you. My father was the person who first took me to a Rackensack meeting when I was fourteen and I was hoping that he would be able to come to Arkansas to visit us sometime so he could come to another Rackensack meeting before he died. But that isn't going to happen now--unfortunately.
