Where are you in Western NC? I have a mountain cabin in the Sylva/ Whittier area and have been looking for jams I can join when I am up there. Are you close to this area?

We go to Todd, NC about twelve miles from Boone every friday night. There's an old general store where random bands play, most all the time if you bring your mando (or whatever else) and ask to play, it will turn into a jam session. Always fun and you never know what will happen, Doc Watson showed up this summer...

Asheville area has the most jams. On Monday night is the BlueRidge Center jam which is great for beginners. The more seasoned get to get up on stage to lead the jam.
On Thursday night there is a double whammy. Go to Miss Hyatt's off Brevard Rd. early for one of the longest running jams in the mountains and then head downtown to the Jack of The Woods bar on Patton for a high energy jam with many of the pros in the area gracing the stage until the wee hours of the morning.
Friday nights head down the mountain to the sleepy town of Old Fort for a more structured stage type jam. There are others like Woodfin on Friday and a few on Saturdays. Look for the Monroe Bros, Harry and Speed with special guest Bessie Lou the Carolina Songbird to make a rare appearance in Old Fort next Friday the 14th.

All still going in the Asheville area except Woodfin. You can add a Tuesday night jam at EyeScream ice cream parlor off old Hwy 70 right outside of Swananoha. There are a few others that have been added too but I don't know details on those. Hyatt's and Jacks seem to be the best ones to go to on a Thursday night.
