I was very uncomfortable with the dairy pronunciation until I saw this:

I always assumed the name was Italian (or at least a related Romance language). Isn't there any mandolinist here that speaks Italian?

All this Hi Ho D'Addario stuff reminded me of something. If you ever drive on the CT Turnpike, somewhere near the Fairfield/Bridgeport line you'll see an enormous oil storage tank that has this logo on it:

    Name: D'Addario Tank.jpg
Views: 218
Size: 25.8 KB Name: Daddario.jpg
Views: 217
Size: 18.1 KB

I have not been able to find a full-size photo of the actual thing - it is enormous, very impressive. In my reserch I did learn the story behind it - the founder of the company (paving, oil, and such) was named Frank D'Addario, and his nickname was "Hi-Ho." Of course. So the company, D'Addario Industries, started a division, Hi-Ho Petroleum. They do not use "The Farmer In The Dell" as their theme song.

BTW, if I ever meet Alexandra Daddario, I am not going to bother her with questions about her spelling...

Nice. I"m not sure if an industrial tank fits with the ethos of the Rattlin' Bog, but, there it is, eh? I feel like a thief!

As a proper mando snob, I say the H in GHS like the Brittish, "haitch".
Sorry to be a pedant, if you really want to be a British snob 'H' is correctly pronounced " 'aitch". "Haitch" is a sign of poor-education, or that you're a Brummie (someone from Birmingham, West Midlands, not Alabama...) or a Scouser (from Liverpool). (from an actual British snob).

On the subject of D'Addario I've always pronounced it Daddario (with the 'ar' like in 'arm' or 'army') now I know it's like 'air'. Always learning new things on Mandolin Cafe. Happy Easter everybody BTW.

Exactly. As long as she uses D'Addario strings!

A rather different context, sir! I assume there were no strings attached.

Honestly, I don't understand all the fuss over this. I've always pronounced it "D'Addario,", and always will.
