OK, so no help from any of you "experts." I talked to some people at my local session and bought a K&K GUITAR pickup (has three transducers, instead of the two on a standard mandolin version.) I hear it has better bass response, and that's part of what I'm looking for. More info when it arrives.

Hey, I just saw your post and while I'm no expert, I have heard twice lately that the K&K is one great pickup

I have a McIntyre Feather pickup in my B.Dean OM, which I like very much and has a strong (but well balanced) bass end. I haven't tried others, so can't commend comparatively.

Well, I did install the K&K. It's listed for a twelve-string guitar. My luthier managed to sandwich the pickups between the braces on my OM, and I am very impressed. This has a great sound, especially considering it's passive. Nearly the level you'd expect from a preamp, and good bass response. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a pickup on CBOM.
