ZoukFest Irish Music Weekend registration open

Registration is open for the ZoukFest Traditional Irish Music Weekend, and it is going to be quite a weekend. Dates are June 7-10 at the Santa Fe University of Art and Design in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Sean McElwain, from the Irish band Teada will be teaching bouzouki, guitar, and tenor banjo, and ZoukFest founder Roger Landes will be doing classes for mandolin, octave mandolin, and bouzouki. If you are a singer, Moira Smiley will be back at ZoukFest teaching vocal classes. Eliot Grasso will be teaching flute, whistle, and variations in Irish music. The variations class will be of interest to any Irish musician who wants to explore the intricacies of Irish music.

Two of Ireland's finest traditional musicians will also be at ZoukFest. Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh teaching fiddle, and Mick O'Brien teaching Uilleann pipes.

This is a great opportunity to learn from, and play with some of the best Irish musicians around, and spend some time in one of the great cities in America, Santa Fe.

I wish I could come this year, I have family obligations in June and we (including my son Roy) will be in Tennessee instead. Next year for sure.

If you (by you, I mean anyone reading this thread) can get to Zoukfest, I urge you to go. I never had so much fun or met such scary - in a good way - musicians. They were wonderful to me and helped me a lot. Brian McGrath was there last year!

Roger - I was in Israel earlier this year and riding in the car with a friend who told me he was signed up for your Zoukfest this year (you'll meet him soon) so I said "really?" and pulled out your House to House cd I happened to have in my bag at that moment. He was surprised, and loved it and so it remained with him. Now I need to get another copy for myself. I miss it.

I was going to take my 14-year-old son to Zoukfest; he plays Celtic fiddle and is trying to get a handle on the uilleann pipes. It would have been perfect for him. I was disappointed to find out that they do not allow participants under 16 years old. It's a shame, as plenty of young fiddlers get along just fine at the Marc O'Connor camps. As long as they are with guardian, I don't see the problem.

I saw a thread about Zoukfest and shared my experience. Yes, your explanation was clear, but that does not alter the fact that my family's experience was exclusion from Zoukfest.

I understand your business decision, but you should not be surprised that those who you exclude will be disappointed, and may share this information. You can't please everyone. Anyway, there are probably people who are extra happy that children will not be attending.
