Default Hot Rize @ Purbeck Valley Folk Festival 2015

    Hi all
I'm kinda very new to Hot Rize & Bluegrass in general, so unlike a lot of you, I'm really catching up, at something of a snail's pace I admit. Still, since my own band (not bluegrass) was playing this festival, and Hot Rize were... well... why not?!

Here's me hanging with Pete & Tim.

(literally hanging with Tim.... it's upside down!)

Pete was sat round the in the crew/artist canteen with his good lady Joan (she took the photo) so we had a really good long chat over food. Some nice discussions about Mr Thile and his early years, plus general nattering. Got introduced by Joan to the other Hot Rize womenfolk too. Nick and I had a nice chat too after their set. What a nice guy.
Tim O'B is known to us brits a lot for Transatlantic Sessions on the TV, which is how I learned of them in the first place.

Put it this way, the chances for us brits to see them are now slim, so I was bouncing around with a ridiculous smile on my face during the set, and yes they did the country music skit. Had the audience in the palm of their hands.

As for musicianship, what's to say? Just utterly brilliant and so electrifying to see my first proper top class bluegrass live. In a cowshed! Now I wish I had another 25 years to learn to play half as good ha ha.

Proper starstruck... and I didn't even need to buy a ticket to see it!

I got to meet Pete and Joan at a Wernick Bluegrass camp earlier this year. I also saw Hot Rize for the first time this past winter, looking forward to seeing them again this weekend. Pete has done a lot in keeping the bluegrass movement going strong, introducing and encouraging budding musicians.
Pete and Joan are very approachable and genuine people!
