Default Bill Plays Melissa's Waltz for J.B.--Live!

I collect live versions of the tunes off of Bill Monroe's "Master of Bluegrass", mainly because many of them were so rarely played, and I like to see how the tunes evolved...

Just ran into this one--"Melissa's Waltz for J.B."--which is the only time I've ever heard it played live...

So, here tis, with Jesse McReynolds & Larry Sledge sitting in...
    Live at Bean Blossom, 6/18/1981....

    Pretty cool....

Many thanks for that Spruce. I only heard that tune for the first time ever a couple of months back, courtesy of an LP 'transfer' to CD. It's a very beautiful tune & sounds as though it was played in a different tuning ??,
    Ivan
    Weber F-5 'Fern'.
    Lebeda F-5 "Special".
    Stelling Bellflower BANJO
    Tokai - 'Tele-alike'.
    Ellis DeLuxe "A" style.

Wow, that was great! Who plays with Bill on the original version? Was that McReynolds, also?

    Yes, I believe it was...
And Larry Sledge played on MOB as well, which is why Bill brought him out to sit in as well....

I had a wonderful exchange of emails with him back when I was recording "Mangler of Bluegrass", and he stated:

"We did the entire recording in one session, just not much over 3 hours."

    I just love that...

    Yep...
    Monroe apparently hated the studio...

I've got a live version of every tune off of "Master" except for "Lady Of The Blue Ridge"...
If anyone happens to have a live version of that tune, I'd sure love to hear it...

Most of the live versions are one-offs, too...
I saw Bill do "Right, Right On" at the Great American Music Hall in '79 or so, and have a great recording of that night...
Only time I ever heard of him doing the tune...

All the rest are kinda rare too, except for maybe "Old Ebenezer Scrooge", which got played quite a bit...
