I play it in D. D, G, and A chords. I may have a chord sheet at home, but no tab. Shouldn't be too difficult to pick out the melody.

It's just 3 chords and the truth. Use your ear.

Listen to John Duffey/Seldom Scene's version. As good as it gets.

I'm a fan of the Tim O'Brien/Darrell Scott version on "Real Time". A-capella and it is the perfect blend of blues/country singing. You could take that kind of arrangement and add in a guitar or mando or both and do a brother duet style.

Yes! That is my favorite version.

I play this song occasionally at church with just my voice and mandolin. I just play simple 2-finger chords, mostly in the background, but with some accented beats. Between verses, I play a single-note line echoing the melody of the last line of the verse. I'm not the greatest singer, but this arrangement has gotten some compliments.

I have a live show where Tim played along with a similar version to what he played on the real time album, something like this...

    G (some people cheat...) G7(buy) C (know) G(day) D(silver) G(away)

if you can understand what that meant, you spent way too much time playing music!

The Tony Rice/Herb Pederson version on David Grisman's Home Is Where the Heart Is cd is one of my favorite versions.
