Gonna be a good one. It'll be nice to have Lowell Levinger and Spider Murphy playing full sets, although it looks like perhaps we won't have Marcy Marxer back.

On my way out of town yesterday, I stopped by the Astoria Guitar Company, which hosted the first two Tenor Guitar Gatherings ... and it's gone! The shop moved out and left an empty space. The custom leather shop that occupied another space in the same building is also gone.

So I guess we'll have another space lined up for jamming and workshops, but I will miss that guitar shop.

I'm taking tenor banjo lessons from Spider... wow, kind of like sitting beneath a fire hose!

I'm going to help Spider produce some products. What kind of stuff would folks at the Gathering most appreciate?

Products? Um ... the "Play Like Spider" hand prostheses? Spider Murphy's All-Purpose Oil Soap? The "No, Not THAT Spider Murphy; Seriously, Do I Sound German to You?" T-shirt?

How about instructional materials? DVDs, books?

Ah! Yes, I think folks at the TGG would be interested in that stuff. I might buy something that taught fingerpicking patterns, for example, since the rolls I know are pretty basic. Focus first on handouts to support the workshop, but do a DVD if you have time. Maybe a "Spider Teaches Blues" book would be nice: chords, comping patterns, progressions, fills, and lead playing.

Man, I would love to go to the TGG, it's just not in the cards this year. I hope I get to go next year assuming there will be one. Does any one have any experiance on how difficult it is to fly with a tenor guitar?

I took an international flight to Greece with a tenor guitar in a gig bag (among other instruments) and didn't have a problem carrying it on. But that was several years ago.

Lowell's 5 string [FCGDA] is an interesting bit of added range,
but would dropping so far into the bass clef be falling below tenor voice?
    sneaking into baritone range ..

Y'all come back next year, good to drop in for a jam with new people

    Martin, I wish!
I got the YouTube video links from the Tenor Guitar Gathering page on Facebook, and thought I'd share them here for others (like me ) who were not able to attend.
Maybe next year? (Though Oregon is a long way from Ohio)
