Looking for some Finnish songs to play on Mandolin.
Suomi!
Do you know about the Helsinki Mandoliners? Petri Hakala, Arto Jarvela? That's where I would start.
Notorious: My Celtic CD--listen & buy!
The Priest and the Publicans: Gospel bluegrass out of the box.
Emando.com: More than you wanted to know.
Donaldson • Rigel • Thormahlen • Andersen • Old Wave • Bacorn • Yanuziello • Fender • National • Gibson • Roberts • Franke • Fuchs • Aceto • Three Hungry Pit Bulls
Oh yes, Mandoliners Polka is the only song i've heard of by The Helsinki Mandoliners since it's the only one I've found on youtube. I'll have to figure out, a little dictation practice will do good.
You should check out Heikki Lahti. He has at least 1 CD (http://www.cdroots.com/om-lahti.html) and you can search for some videos of him on YouTube.
Näkemiin!
I've been trying to track down recordings of Heikki Lahti, after hearing him play at Kaustinen 15 years ago. Unfortunately, the link you posted above, on pressing the BUY CD button, returns the message This item is not available.
Mandolin Cafe member Mandocrucian (Niles Hokkanen) has a cassette of Heikki Lahti listed for sale on his web catalogue http://www.users.waitrose.com/~john..../hokkanen.html , but I think the contact email (and the website) must be out of date, as I've written a couple of times and not had a reply.
Not mandolin, but here are some video clips of the great fiddler, Konsta Jylhä, playing his own compositions. They make fine mandolin tunes as well. Enjoy.

I took a look at the Finnish Folk Music Association website's boutique, and they list another recording by Heikki Lahti from 2007 that appears to be available: http://www.kansanmusiikkiliitto.fi/n...meijjan-heitto I haven't tried ordering it yet, but the website indicates that its in stock.
They also have several other mandolin related items, including:
Book/CD of traditional tunes for mandolin and guitar: http://www.kansanmusiikkiliitto.fi/n...a-petri-trad-2
CD by the Jalasjärvi Mandolin Men: http://www.kansanmusiikkiliitto.fi/n...arvelaisittain
The book "Pelimannisävelmia" contains transcriptions of many standard Finnish fiddle tunes in standard notation: http://www.kansanmusiikkiliitto.fi/n...imannisavelmia
I also came across Hannu Brelo's website. It looks like he plays Karelian music on a flat top mandolin. (Karelia is the region on either side of the Finnish-Russian border)

Another fellow Finnish mandolin player is Seppo Sillanpää. I had the pleasure of doing a workshop with him a few years ago here in Duluth, MN He has published at least three mandolin books, Lamentarola, Akustin Polska, and an instructional book (in Finn) "Mandoliiniopas. Some of these books are out of print but if you contact Seppo at: sillanp(at)pp.phnet.fi he might be able to find you copies. The books contain many traditional Finnish tunes as well as some of his originals.
The home site is: http://koti.mbnet.fi/bando/index.html
There are also a number of fiddle tune books by Arto Järvelä and JPP - again some of these may be out of print. Petri Hakala I believe has a book also. Maybe one can try an inquiry with the Sibelius Academy of Folk Music - www.siba.fi and see what they have. And don't forget that Niles has tabbed out one or two I believe "Emma" is one standard on this site's tabs-waltzs. Hyvää Onni in your search...
Greetings from Finland! Yes, Petri Hakala has a book with cd, it is called Trad.
