    Default Stanley #62

For those who'd like to see what Chris Stanley is up to, there are some new pics on the Stanley Social Group of his latest...a plain Jane A5 with lots of little subtle goodies.

I'd gladly post the pics here, but am way too technically challenged, and someone helped with the posting on the social group initailly. So If anyone would like to paste them on this thread, I'd be grateful.

There are so many wonderful builders (even in my own back yard) and it made choosing almost impossible, but Chris was a natural fit for every reason I can think of. He also likes to build in the winter so his mandos won't need humidification. I've grown to love a good Loar sound, which what Chris is dedicated to. He and Charlie Derrington were good friends, who freely shared a great deal of know how and enthusiasm. His staining and varnish seem to give a 3-D look to the wood, which has really spoiled my notions of what looks good.

Even tho it's brand new, the big, open, loose midrange and highs amaze me...across the strings and up the neck. Can we talk tone here?

I need all the help I can get with the pics.....dan

Beautiful mandolin, he sure makes some very vintage vibe mandos.

Look great! It's really about the great tone though isn't it? At a jam the other night, two friends with their Weins and Red Diamond and I with my Stanley shared some mandogeek moments admiring and sharing the instruments and there were some terrific sounds, I'll tell you. As much s I liked the others, I felt no desire to have any other instrument than my Stanley. I know you'll enjoy your new one.

Thanks for posting the pics from the Stanley Social group, Mike. It sounds like your Stanley has the classic tone. I'm looking forward to mine breaking in.

Shaun, Ivan and Chris, thanks for the kind words. You might want to check out the new pearl inlay on the peghead. His pearl guy really nailed the handwriting style that my grandmother used, which is from the very early 1900's, and quite Gibson-like. One could say it's Gibson-esque and still Stanley at the same time, but it's actually just the style of that time period.

I prefer a plain fretboard and simple elegance.
