Any stand that seemed sturdy and stable and fit the mando well. I have taken two different guitar stands and modified them for the mando with great success. I took a cheapo standard-style stand and cut down some of the components with a hacksaw to fit the mando and reinforced some of the weak points with sheet metal screws. It has served me well. I also took a more expensive "hangman" style stand and bent the fingers that hold the headstock closer together for the smaller mando headstock. It works really well also, solid as a rock. Both mods took almost not time at all.

I use an electric guitar stand--no neck support, but it is very convenient and sturdy.

These are great stands for mandolin: Hercules Travel Stands. The are sturdy, they don't tip easily, and the easily transportable. Highly recommended.

Be a bit careful with synthetic materials if you leave the instrument on the stand a long time. They can react with certain finishes. There was a report here a while back of a conflict between the finish on a Phoenix and the soft materials on an instrument stand. Doesn't seem to be a major problem for most, but worth being aware of.

I've been using the Meisel violin stand. It's small and stable, but not very sturdy. So far no mishaps, though.

Thanks to jflynnstl's post, I took an old guitar stand I don't use any more, and cut it down to fit a mandolin. I replaced the old orangish rubber stuff with new black vinyl tubing. Looks and works great. And no, I don't leave the mandolin set on the vinyl at all times, just when I need a stand while playing.

I got an Hercules this week (this one). It's a big improvement over what i had before; very sturdy, and holds the mandolin at the right height when you're standing up onstage. It's really a guitar stand, though, and doesn't support the mandolin's back properly. It will do for now, but i wish i had got instead, the model with adjustable back support. Maybe that could be raised enough to work for the mandolin. I wasn't aware of that other model when i ordered (from Elderly).

I have the Hercules 422B that holds two mandolins/guitars with the back support. It works great!

So, can the back support be adjusted high enough so it protects the mandolin's back, or do you lower the mandolin so it reaches the back support?

When you lower the top all the way down the back support is in the middle of the mandolin's back. Fits perfect. It's at about waist height. The neck holder is convenient too. Grab the mandolin and pick it up or just put the mandolin in the neck holder, the arms move with the weight of the mando. The only drawback is that it's a bit wide for some snakehead style pegheads so they would be resting on the tuners. My Mandoblaster doesn't fit inside it (without resting on the tuners) either. But it holds my Pomeroy F and my Gibson A5 perfectly.
