    Default Direction/Advice

I'm fairly new to Irish music. Just recently purchased an Octave Mandolin and love it. My standard mandolin is garbage so I'm trying to decide should I buy a new mandolin or perhaps a mandola? I feel the mandola would give me more tuning options. Also, I am a singer so mandola would accompany vocals better I think. Your opinions and any other advice on what direction to go in would be great.

Depends a lot on your vocal range I guess. These girls seem to do just fine singing with a Mando

Yea I suppose that works for the female vocals and that style of song. I'm more in to the Celtic ballads. Planxty and the like.

Might like their rendition of "Battle of Evermore".

And it also sounds like you have a bad case of MAS (Mandolin Acquisition Syndrome)
The only way to stop it is to feed it.

True, but then again, few people can play mandolin like Eva does!

Well, after much thought I think I might go with a Big Muddy M11W. I hear so many good things about them and they sound great on all the clips Ive heard. The Mandola idea just seems like too much trouble. I need to go with a good Mandolin first and go from there. I even considered digging a little deeper and getting a Sobell but it seems he's hard to contact these days and you have to wait a loooong time to get it. Not to mention you could buy another instrument with the shipping cost from Europe!!
