Great, But why didn't they let us hear the instrument. Do you think they'll do a mandolin version?

oh man. if there is one thing in this world that really gets under my skin, it's autotune for the voice. to me that is the biggest cheater piece of equipment in all of music. sound like a robot because a machine is taking your out of tune voice and correcting notes. if you don't want to learn how to play the instrument, voice incl, then don't let a machine do the work. that is just so lazy it burns my brain.
I think I'll pass on this (moot point since I don't have an iPad).

Oh yeah, guitar hero is robbing lots of kids from the joy of being able to make music by giving them some false, fleeting participation in music.

I agree, pjlama. My kids got guitar hero and I tried totally without success to play it. My knowing how to play real string instruments actually hindered my ability to play this silly color matching "game". My only hope is that playing Guitar Hero gives some kids the urge to learn the real thing.
I do own and proudly wear one of these:

What would happen if you Doc Bogs voice through a vocal auto tuner?

I have a vocal harmonizer and one of the fx is autotune. we call it the cher sound. ewww.
I played guitar hero with a friend once. my eyes were watering trying to see those stupid colors and I was trying to play the song like it sounded and actually hit too many notes. the game was wrong not me :P

Sorry guys... haven't been able to practice lately. I lost my charger. Why not just use that money and get a real guitar?

Amen. Many of these kids think they're actually making music. It's a quick bandaid on the itch to really make music, the same itch that brought so many of us so much joy, and, ultimately, to this forum,
And don't get me started on the people who think air guitar is somehow an art...

I use a home-made one on my guitar... it's called I-Suck...
Cute..
Maybe you suck, but you suck at playing a real instrument, in the real world. I'll take that any day over a useless game.
(and I'll bet you don't suck that bad)
South Park did a bit on Guitar Hero once. The kids were totally involved in it, so Stan's ex-hippie Dad pulled out his old electric guitar and amp to show them how guitar playing is really done. He totally shreds-- plays the heck outa that thing. The kids go, "um, that's cool" and then pick up their bogus Guitar Hero "guitars" and go back to the game. For me (ex hippie that I am) it was a very real and sad moment.

Now that they've gotten rid of the instrument, the next step is to get rid of the musician, then the listener. Pretty soon it will be a computer app listening to a computer app playing a computer app composition on a computer app instrument. No people need apply.
