He's one of the finest fiddlers in the business and has been for a long time (no slouch on mandolin either). Former Blue Grass Boy, three-time national fiddle champion, Grammy nominee, etc. etc. More here.
Great musician, mainly on fiddle, but also on mandolin (owns one of the finest, by the way). He is the very fiddler, who recorded the classic versions of Gold Rush, Sally Goodin and Virginia Darling with Bill Monroe, owns the Double Stop Fiddle shop in Guthrie, OK and knows a lot about violins. He lived on the West Coast for a while and played fiddle in a few movies: Vanishing Point, Back to the Future III, Christmas in Connecticut; even was visible in scene of one Star Treck episode. Byron has a good sense of humor, is a fine fellow to tour with and just very nice, friendly and supportive. Enjoy that work shop, Tigerpaws!

Never met the man, but I've spoken to him on the phone several times. He is a gentleman, is patient with me when I try to explain what I need, and he knows his stuff.
I think he is one of those top-tier professionals who just loves teaching us lesser mortals. I would jump at the chance to go to his workshop if I were you.
Ha, ha! keep time: how sour sweet music is,
When time is broke and no proportion kept!

I still rate Byron as one of the best fiddle players I ever heard. Saw him for the first time way back, when he was with 'Country Gazette' - Roger Bush on bass, Roland White on mandolin (of course) and Alan Munde on banjo, and Kenny Wertz guitar/vocals.
He is a silky smooth, powerful player who is always tasteful.
You are in for a treat.

As Robin Bullock says,he's an Fiddle ace & a great Mandolin player as well. I first heard him in the original "Country Gazette" band.Unfortunately when they visited the UK,Byron had left & had been replaced by Dave Ferguson, himself a terrific Fiddle player, who now seems to have left the planet !.If you have a chance to attend his workshop, get there come hell or high water, you'll have a great time i'm sure,
