Hey, if Scotland votes to secede, will it still be the "UK"?

Anyway, "hi" to you as well.

It will no longer be the "UK" but will still be Great Britain as this is a geographical rather than political term.

S'pose I ought to say Hi as well, Calv, but I think we've already met on another forum.

You're not in Scotland then! Apparently, the latest "Scotland" problem is what to do with Rockall (those who need to know will know where it is). Seems that it was claimed as part of the UK after the Act of Union and, therefore, can't become part of a devoluted Scotland.

Maybe the real worry for the UK Government is what will happen to the nuclear bases up here in Scotland that the UK Government put here to be well away from London. I live on the shores of the Holy Loch here in Argyll where the US had their huge Polaris Submarine Base for many years till they no longer needed it with the changes in world politics following the thawing of the Cold War and dissolution of the USSR. While I was teaching we had around 100 US students attending our local secondary school (about 10% of the school roll) as, unlike other US military bases in the UK, they had no school of their own so the kids attended our Scottish schools. It was great to have them here and they added a lot to the life of the school, in my opinion. In fact several families retired from the navy and stayed on over here in Scotland and I count friends among them.
The UK Nuclear Deterrent is still based in our area with the huge submarine bases on Loch long and at Faslane. Against the huge threat from such establishments we have to balance the numbers of folk employed in the defence industry, and this will be a major consideration for any discussions re the future of Scotland in or out of the UK. Would be great if we Scots could have a say in the final outcome!

Hello again Calv - I think that it's always nice to know the geographic location of other members. There may be other players close by so that you can meet up. I've met up with 3 other Mandolin players through the 'Cafe, something i wouldn't have been able to do if i hadn't known their location.
