Ken Cartwright called to let me know the good news that the Thursday night MandoTasting at WinterGrass is definitely on now. We'd announced earlier that it had been cancelled.

Now, here's where some help is needed. Ken wants to round up enough mandolins for John Reischman to play so he's letting all mandolins in regardless of price. He may have some other requirements as to what instruments are a part of this but I'll let him speak regarding that as I'll only be an audience member.

Ken, I'll try to send down the Rigel G95 prototype, and maybe a G5 if you don't have one of those already.

I could provide an Ibanez 524. If needed.

Scott - all of this begs the question, are you going to Wintergrass?

    Mandolin Tasting is on again.
My apologies to the Wintergrass producers for the unedited press release yesterday about he mandolin tasting. It was my decision to terminate the tasting, not theirs. On again, off again, will Cartwright ever make up his mind? Well he did make up his mind and it’s on. The glitches have been taken care of and the scheduling is set with John Reischman for 6:30 PM on the 26th, Thursday night. Registration begins at 5:00 PM in Ballroom 1 of the Sheraton Hotel in Tacoma Washington. If you are going to be at Wintergrass and have an unusual or unique mandolin that you think would make for an interesting sample and would loan it to us for a couple of hours to compare it to other mandolins, please email Ken Cartwright at kenc@wvi.com. We would also invite you to come and meet Scott Tichenor of Mandolin Cafι, and John Reischman. We invite you to come and listen to these instruments and others including a nearly undocumented and non played Loar that was recently discovered in the Seattle area. Ken Cartwright

Yes, I'm there Thursday around noon or shortly thereafter and leaving around noon on Saturday. I'll be hanging around the Mandotasting carrying a mandolin case so I should be easy to spot. Let's have a big ol' party with a ton of mandolin players. I'll buy the beer. Or coffee if you prefer, but none of that evil decaf stuff... it's worse than Texas BBQ.

Taint nuthin' worse than Texas BBQ

Looking forward to meeting you Scott! I should have access to the radio room if it gets too noisy downstairs. You will be amazed by the amount of indoor jamming. It becomes a cacaphony pretty quick.

I'll make notice that my room at the Sheraton is definately open for the the odd hot jam/mando swap/various genre pick-out (as it has so many times in the the past). Registered under my name, the house phone works. Anyway, I'll probably see a few of ya'll at Ken's event, and we can plan the weekend's festivities then(especially since this is the weakest line-up in years; don't have those stinkin' stellar bands to distract us from our pickin'). Looking forward to putting some more faces to names, so see you there.........
