    Default Namm 2012

Counting down the days to this years NAMM.

I'll be there on the Saturday & Sunday as part of the Pigtronix/Supro/Zinky contingent and was wondering if there are any plans for a Mandolin Cafe hang.

I'm bringing my mando along just in case [and something to do in the car enroute].

Man, I used to go to every NAMM show in the 80s. I miss that show. Enjoy!

NAMM is my idea of what christmas is all about - 3 floors of a huge convention centre crammed to the rafters with toys to fulfill any gear-heads dreams!!

    Plus it's sunny and warm.

I worked the shows for years and can honestly say I don't miss them at all. There was a lot of pressure to get orders plus the noise, set-up, break down. The only thing I miss is my NAMM show friends. I used to have to go the Musikmesse too, I've been fully traumatized. I've been in the motorcycle industry for almost 10 years now and have not been to a motorcycle trade, my NAMM PTSD is too strong

    Spruce,

I thought all the old guys like you head out to the Anaheim show just to rubberneck at the half dressed rocker chicks playing electric guitars like Hendrix at demo booths before they head out for their night gig at the Whiskey A Go Go.

'Never seen such humor as to walk around that place in prime form and gander at the folks from middle American coming into town with the school shopping lists and see them completely dysfunctional staring at those girls, mesmirized with their jaws hitting the ground....

Been going to NAMM shows for 31 years, this one included. First few shows, I wondered what it would happen when some of the circus folks breed.

    Now I know.

It was those pics, from several NAMMS ago, that cost me a lot of money. That picture of the National RM-1. I just sat there, literally, with my jaw open, like some kind of gawker goober. Two years later I bought one.

I'm on the creative side so I go to see what's new, catch up with old friends, meet new ones and enjoy a few days in relatively warm and sunny weather. The convention center being right beside Disney Land I find quite fitting and helps the circus atmosphere. Being the one responsible for the logistics or running a booth at a big show is stuff of ulcers and I'm glad it's not me.

I got a descent camera cheap, so I can actually take pictures this year but posting them real-time isn't that easy. I have no doubt somebody will invent a camera that automatically posts pictures to Facebook as they are taken, but we ain't there yet AFAIK.

Almost there. Anyone want to say hi, I'll be around the Pigtronix/Supro/Zinky booth Saturday and probably Sunday. I don't have the booth number ATM, but it's on the main floor in the aisle between PRS and Musicman. It's the booth Zinky has had for years. If I'm not there leave a message and I'll do my best to get back.

Have a great show all who are going. I'll have a full report once I'm back!

Passes have been done with photo ID for the past 4-5 years [IIRC] and registration is usually done Oct/Nov...

    but...

they have been opening the doors to the public on Saturdays for the past few years to counter dwindling attendance of buyers and sellers. And this past summer they had a public day at the Summer NAMM in Nashville for the first time. $20 a head IIRC.
