Thread: What tune(s) will you work up for the end of the world??

Default What tune(s) will you work up for the end of the world??

Okay December 21st, 2012 is drawing upon us quickly!

If we all are going to be vaporized in a cosmic cleansing then I thought well heck it would be really awesome to have a chorus of mandolins singing to the heavens as we all go phooey, would it not?

Now I don't think the Mayan calendar controls our fate but as an exercise I thought it might be fun to consider a musical accompaniment to the end of times. Should.. there be one.. this year.. in December... ah.. on the 21st... or not!

My vote would be 'It's the end of the world' by REM...

    Other suggestions?
    Kip...
    Blessings,
    Kip...

Got to agree with John on this one:

“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around and play mandolin.”

I saw Mike Compton play "Last days on earth" and I would have to say that would be a hard one to beat, excellent song!

It's hard to see the point or working up new material under those circumstances.

Right, why stay on the sideline plunkin' when you can join the festivities and release your inner monster?

Well, of course this is all so much silliness. In fact, the article the OP started this thread with is concerned with debunking this nonsense. So I wonder, what, if anything, is the point of this? I mean, really! Answering your own question kind of leaves us nowhere to go ... but this is an opportunity to fritter away some time, I suppose. Time that could be better spent building a rocket ship to take a select crew of survivors to another world where human life can continue and deciding what crucial things to bring with them on their mission ... hopefully including a mandolin and a lot of strings ...

Whatever. I thought of the song that was playing in "Dr. Strangelove" when they dropped the bomb - "Well Meet Again." I always liked The Byrds' version, especially the faux British accents and the fadeout ...

Then again, in keeping with the notion of going off into space, something like "Brave New World" or "Space Cowboy" by Steve Miller Band, maybe "Have You Seen The Stars Tonight?" by Jefferson Starship.

Then again, since Christmas will be coming up in just a few days, I'll be brushing up on my Christmas carols. You know, just in case the world DOESN'T end.

Maybe I missed it, but I haven't seen Flatt & Scruggs' "Til the End of the World Rolls 'Round" mentioned yet.
