Default A new Mandolin Cafe in Raleigh

This restaurant just opened in the Five Points area in Raleigh. It is called 'Mandolin'. The sign above the door is a depiction of a bowl backed mandolin. The owner-chef comes from ferrington house, a very respected eatery out by Pittsboro. I think it would be fun to invite every mandolin player I know in town to have dinner there sometime.

I think that would be awesome. Once you get a mandolin jam going there once a week, get the press to come take pictures.

Another one - cool! Someday there will be a Mandolin This-Or-That in every city. Every time I check there are more. Website: http://mandolinraleigh.com/; facebook: http://www.facebook.com/mandolinraleigh

Other ones I have found on the interweb:

Mandolin Café, Tacoma WA: http://www.themandolincafe.com/ It has a webcam at http://www.stickam.com/mandolincafeloveland

The Mandolin Café, Loveland CO: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mandol...d/173491399623

Mandolin Aegean Bistro, Miami FL: http://www.mandolinmiami.com/

    Mandolins Restaurant, Orlando FL: http://www.orlandoescape.com/radisson/mandolins.htm

The Mandolin, Missoula MT: I haven't found a web presence yet

Mandolin's Restaurant, Saskatoon, SK Canada: Don't see a website but you can order online here

Mandolin Restaurant, Chelsea (London) UK: No web presence yet either

Mandolin Restaurant & Pub Selangor, Malaysia (just outside Kuala Lumpur): http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mandol...app_2309869772

    Mandolin Restaurant, Zhejiang, China: http://en.zjol.com.cn/10en/system/20...17505637.shtml

There is a Mandaloun Restaurant in Jacksonville FL (http://www.mandalounjax.com/) an also in Redwood City CA (http://www.mandaloun.biz/) but that probably doesn't count.

BTW, Don Stiernberg has an album out called "Don Stiernberg's Mandolin Restaurant." Not familiar with it, but I'll bet it contains very tasty fare and is very low-fat, low-calorie, and low-carb. The menu is superb.

A bit far for me, but the Mandolin Aegean Bistro in Miami looks tempting. Their website has a rotating selection of photos, and the closeup of mussels looks scrumptious - didn't think that was possible.

Richmond, Virginia used to have, "Cafe Mandolin," a nice place for dinner, but it closed a few years back.

The farmer I work with sells her pork to Sean - and did when he was at Fearington. On that basis alone, i am sure it is excellent!

There's a Mandolin cafe just outside Istanbul in Turkey and very good it is too. Going to see if I can get them to rename the staff restaurant here in Lagos just for my stay.!

Who knew? Fearrington certainly has been a great eatery over the years. This is worth checking out. Pretty short trip for me.

Hey, if there is this large a number of mandolin players around the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area, I might just try to have another "Mando Tasting" event. Did one about 5 years ago and had some great pro pickers (Tony Williamson, Jim Watson, John Teer) and several local pickers come together in Carrboro for an evening of drinks, music and instrument swapping. Tony brought a few Loars for folks to try, which was a real treat. Let me know if you'd be up for it!

There's a place in Arlington, Texas called Mandola's. I've not eaten there yet. Cool looking place though.

Charley -- not that I know of. I'm not doing much with mandolin these days but more trying to learn blues on guitar. So unless you, like me, travel in unusual circles for a mandolinist, our paths probably haven't crossed, unfortunately.

Sounds like a good idea. As I said above, I'm not playing mandolin much and my never-great skills have deteriorated even further, but I do have a few rather unusual mandolins that folks may not have had a chance to get their hands on. And it's always fun to meet folks from the Cafe'.

My mom lives in Galloway Ridge at Ferrington, nice place all around. I get down there (from Virginia) and to see my sistey in Cary every few months and will try to check out the new place, and drop in on any new "mandocentric" activities. Thanks for post, keep us updated.

With all the interest and players in the area, I wonder if the owner might be willing to host a tasting or some other kind of a mandolin-related event there? If there is a room that can accommodate something of this sort, of course. I have to assume he/she is already a fan of the instrument. One doesn't name one's establishment thusly otherwise, unless one is really fond of slicing vegetables thinly and evenly.
