Sonny Osborne...as of Jan.2005 will no longer travel outside of Nashville or the general vicinity to play. Bobby will continue on as Bobby Osborne and the Osborne Bros. Band. Sonny will continue to play the Opry when scheduled. You heard it here first. Well..there goes the congregation..an insitution...the bedrock of 3 part harmony..Makes me wonder why Bobby wants to continue on...I know hes not in the best of health.

    Real bad news Scotti,
I am reminded of one of their recordings; "Georgia Mules and Country Boys are Fading Fast Away". They always put on a great show. Best wishes to them.

    How about "Hey Bartender"?
    Keep it acoustic.

A sad day for Bluegrass Music. I certainly would assume it was -is - an "amicable" decision. Listening AND watching THAT group perform - over the many years I've seen them, was, and always will be an inspiration and motivation for me personaly. EVERY time I saw them perform it was as if they just statred in "the business". There always seemed to be so much energy, comraderie, and genuine FUN in performing for them - regardless of the usual great sidemen they carried. I became "burnt-out" years ago!## - Watching them, I can only believe THEY really enjoyed it - I had that at one time... - it got "squlched" somewhere between the drunks.., alcohol.., cigarette smoke, cancellation-of-gigs..and sundry other "factors'. May God Bless Sonny and Bob... what ever paths they follow in the time(s) to come. Thanks for the years of wonderful music boys!!! - They "set the mark" - others have followed - some have come close - NONE have passed - Sorry to "ramble" - Just had to say....something... 'cause I - personally owe them a debt of gratitude - (if ya' know what I'm talkin' 'bout) - Thanks to Scotti for the "heads-up" - Moose.

In about 1977 I entered my first banjo/fiddle contest in California (won second place in beginning OT fiddle - beaten by a 7 year old girl, but she had taken lessons, and I don't play fiddle anymore), and after a day of listening to banjo contest entrants, the Osborne Brothers came on to finish the evening. A minute into the first song I knew why some people enter contests and others are professionals. No one played like Sonny that day, or anytime I ever saw him. I'm not the 25 year old I was back then, and he has spent a lot of time on the road. I don't blame him for not wanting to travel, and it doesn't look like he's giving up playing - just the travel. Doc Watson says he hates the road, too, and they all put in a lot of miles. It's our loss, but he certainly put in his time.

I heard that news over the weekend. The Osborne Bros are one of the great acts and I considerd them both friends. Sonny wrote the liner notes to our second album....he really seemed to like Paul Brewster, who played with us then

The last time I got to see them was at Sunset Park (RIP). I especially liked the fact the the great (late, RIP) Gene Wooten was with them. They were wonderful and sounded as fresh to me as ever. I can certainly understand why they wouldn't want to put up with the travelling anymore. I am a lot younger than them and I can't believe how stiff I get from just a couple of hundred miles of travelling. God bless them!
