Default Austin, TX - Austin String Band Festival

This is my favorite festival around these parts. Three days of great music, jamming, and camping (lots of mandolin folk). It get's started Friday Oct 14... that's tomorrow!

Here's a link with all the info: http://aftm.us/events/fall-stringband-festival/

    Hope to see you there!

i only got to go for the first night. Rich Hartness and the Pickled Beats were fun. Lots of contra dancing with extra vigorous stomping. Ben was there with his musical partner (who I do not know; she has a lovely voice), and they put on quite a show. The jamming later on was highly enjoyable. I didn't crawl into my sleeping bag until three, and then was up early to jam a while longer before I had to head on down the road.

Ben is right about this becoming a fave event. It is the best time of year for camping in Texas with pleasant evenings, and crisp, cool mornings. Talented acts and great jams. I wish i hadn't had to leave. Missed you, HiddnKat. Where were you jamming?

I camped on the Creekside, and did most of my jamming there with all the folks camped next to me. Since I forgot to pack a sweatshirt, by about 11 o'clock it was dark and I was cold so I crawled into my truck tent. Next year I"ll plan better for the weather - really missed the warmth of a campfire this year to extend my ability to go all night. I also got a bad case of bashful and didn't feel comfortable just walking up to a jam and jumping in. I think next year if I find myself feeling that way, I may go for a little liquid courage and try it anyway.
