I tried this pick awhile back and didn't like it at all, but on a whim I picked up another one on my last trip to the music store and I've fallen in love with it. Maybe it was because I had a different mandolin last time or maybe my tastes have just changed but I love the feel, tone and balance of this pick.

I often use a Pro Plec large tear-drop. Other thick/round picks I use include a Dawg or Golden Gate. In jams, though, I often use a medium weight D'Andrea Xcell - I think a .96 mm. - for the extra edge of a sharper sound.

Count me in as a ProPlec convert. I use the std. guitar shaped one and I love it. It is just the right thickness and bevel. It's fun to see how much more tone it brings out compared to other picks. I can't imagine finding one that would suit me better. Now if only my local guitar shop carried them!

I really liked the ProPlec as well, but I found that the edges wear too quickly for me. Wegen makes a pick in the same shape that I've been using instead.

I use a regular guitar Pro-Plec for my octave mandolin.
Really like it. Still usin' the 'Dawg' for the mando though.........

I have in my case Dawg picks, TorTis and the Pro Plecs (1.5mm?)in the large rounded triangular shape. I always reach for the latter. For me, the large size enables me to keep a "looser" hold on the pick so I can get the Monroevian ones I'm after (not that I get them, I'm just trimming the variables as much as I can!) I hear Ronnie McCoury uses this one so I figured how wrong could I go. I am going to try the equivalent Wegen.

I haven't been able to find the big, triangle Pro-Plecs. Anyone know where I could get a few?

I had to special order my pro-plecs, but it was worth it...after trying a ton of different picks this is the one that is hanging in the strings (and the cases) of all of my mandos...

I agree with John S. I was given my first pro plec, and liked it, and am on my second one, but it seems to be wearing rather quickly.
