Spent a quiet moment on Jerusalem Ridge today playing Jerusalem Ridge to the beat of the crickets' wings.

    The SleepInn.
If you are involved with the Monroe-Style Mandolin Camp you know the last thing you do at the SleepInn is sleep.
The picking tonight started early around 6PM and when I left at 11:30 it was still going strong. The jam list consisted mostly of instrumentals, and some were not Monroe tunes
We had folks from all over the world pick some mandolin tonight right here in Owensboro, KY.
    Well its time for bed,
    Tomorrow the camp officially starts!
Enjoy the picture from tonight's jam session.

at 12:30 PM Central time the International Bluegrass Music Museum will broadcast the introduction of the students and the faculty for the Monroe-Style mandolin camp. If you would like to tune in and listen you can for free by visiting http://www.bluegrassmuseum.org
In the top left hand corner you will see the RBI (Radio Bluegrass International) logo. Click on that logo at 12:30 Central time and you can listen to the first portion of the Mando Class!

The first day of the mandolin camp has come to an end. Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. I hope some of you were able to tune in online to the museums 24/7 bluegrass radio station and listen to the opening statements and introductions. All of the faculty did a great job at making the students feel very welcome and at home. The day started at 12:30 with everyone introducing themselves. At 1PM everyone divided into small groups to learn the various aspects of different Monroe stylistic approaches.
As soon as the classes were over everyone stayed at the museum and picked until midnight. There were multiple jams going on at all times
Below are a couple of photos I snapped during the day.
If you would like to see all the photos (so far) visit the bluegrass museums facebook page http://www.facebook.com/#!/bluegrassmuseum

    Stay tuned!

Look what I found on youtube!
This is a video form the 2011 Centennial Show in Owensboro, KY. Many of the mando camp students stayed for the show. The mando pickers that stayed went up on the stage and performed two songs as a tribute to Big Mon.
    Enjoy!
