My husband was nice enough to design and make this Black Walnut Mandolin Stand for me!

Very Cool. Just imagine what it would look like if he put some binding on it.

Chris, do you mind if I copy that stand, I`ll alter it a bit so that it will fold up for easy transport to and from gigs...Willie

Willie, as long as you alter it and you don't sell them. We appreciate your respecting our original design, which we plan on making available for sale on our website sometime in the near future. Thank you for asking!

In the immortal Cafe tradition of worrying more about the wood than the instrument...

I love the Walnut, nice and dark with some character. It looks good with your Eastman but I'd imagine it would also look nice in contrast with lighter-colored mandos.

I recall seeing a stand made that had scrolls at the base and was hinged so that it folded for transport of storage. I think that there are photos here on the cafe.

I've only seen the small stands on ebay without the neck supports - I haven't run across any other wooden stand, I'd be curious to see how the scrolls looks - must be elegant.

I'll pass that along to my husband, Max - thank you. He is a very talented woodworker and I'm lucky. Now, If I could just get him to start building mandolins......

Nice and simple-- I like that. Have you given any thought to covering the part where the mandolin rests with something soft like felt or cork?

I was thinking some felt, but I like the idea of cork.....I'll have to see what I can get my hands on. Thanks!

Just an update - I have added some foam padding to the stand and it added just the right amount of protection, without being too noticeable.

Be careful with the foam. Some of those can mar a finish. I wish I could remember which ones but I can't... I don't have foam on any of my stands so it isn't a concern in my head... Just remembering. Very nice design, too!

*runs to stand....rips off foam* Thanks. I have no idea what type of foam it is - I got it at Michaels and was told it wouldn't break down and disenergrate but I'm not taking chances. I also bought felt, so I just cut some to size and put it on with some acid free double stick tape....oh please tell me there is nothing wrong with the tape?

    Hi Chris -

What a beautiful stand - very nice finish and design! Your Eastman looks great sitting on it too.

FYI - I've used thick felt held in place with waterbased contact cement on a stand of mine without any finish issues so far.
