Default Mando siting: Second Chorus 1940

While watching Second Chorus over the other night. There was a beautiful Gibson 30's mando. Just like Sam Bushes w/flowerpot,block inlay, straight logo. (compared to Barry Mitterhoffs '42 with fluer de lis). Great seeing this period instrument being used in the period it was made. About Chisholm's playing......

    POOR MR. CHISHOLM
    (Bernie Hanighen / Johnny Mercer)
Performed by Fred Astaire & Burgess Meredith
    Reprised by Fred Astaire

Poor Mr. Chisholm played on the mandolin
    But he couldn't win
    'Cause he tried to swing
And he broke a string every time

Poor Mr. Chisholm just couldn't dig the jive
When he did arrive at the proper note
He arrived by boat every time

He tried to jazz up his mandolin
But never could quite control it
He always brought Bach and Handel in
When it took a lick, he always broke a pick

    Poor Mr. Chisholm
You're quite a gay old blade
With your serenade, but you're corny, Jack
Better truck on back to Dubuque, get a uke
You disgraced your kin on the mandolin every time

    53:49 here....

Glad the mandolin survived the scene...

Looking closer, it could use a good setup. The bridge is way out of position and the fretboard extension is squared off. maybe longer than usual when cut or did they make it this way? Sam cut his.

Very Very Cool Mando siting,, She's not an F-5,Check out the bridge placement/pickguard and inlay work..That is an F-7 mandolin,,that one has the urn type peghead inlay with the curly cue! Most F-7's had the fluer-de-lis peghead inlay..
I just wonder if that could be one of my 7's in the movie? All of mine have that urn style inlay and I do believe 7's are somewhat rare..Be cool if I could find out somehow?
Happy pickin out there in Mandoland,,Billy
