Major banjo is correct. Similarly, the violins of Guarneri "del Gesu" would have never been important without Paganini playing one. NO ONE cared about his violins for 100 years after his death. But once Paganini toured the known world with his "Cannon" then you see that EVERY French violin maker started making copies of that violin. ZERO!! Guarneri patterned instruments were made ANYWHERE in the world before Paganini hit the stage. That is a very easy way to date them too BTW. Monroe put Loar on the map, without question.

As a neutral observer, I must say that this has become one of the most interesting and thought provoking threads I've seen on the Cafe. Thanks to all the knowledgeable folks (on both sides of the "Loar Fence") who have posted.
