I just don't think this is correct because I have seen this mandolin on Ebay before and it never sold. #I think the guy even tried to sell it here on the classifieds. #All of a sudden the same mando and pictures show up on Ebay with a user that has 0 feedback rating.

    Here

    If F-model mandolins have F-holes then why don't A-model mandolins have A-holes???

I dont know about the mando but the table and chairs look like the same set as shown in the '96 Gilchrist for sale in the classifieds owned by our very own Ken Waltham....seems to me he was trying to sell a Brent a while back..

    $999 no reserve = Problem
Especially when the description says low reserve -obviously lifted and did not read.

Notice the seller just became a member of Ebay today! Must be a quick three day auction so he can cheat someone and be on his way. I emailed the bidder.

Wouldn't that be ironic if Ted becomes the victim of a crooked seller?

i own hans' red spruce 23v demo. #the mando in those pictures looks like my mando, but these are not the pictures hans sent me nor are they pictures i took. #

they do look like the pics of the brentrup that ken waltham was selling a few months back though. #that mandolin was sold through cotten music in nashville a few weeks back. #although as far as i know that mando was not a "demo".

i knew sooner or later someone was going to "sell" one of my mandos on ebay! #

so many mandolins, so little time.

You guys are very good! Thatis definately my table in my kitchen! I even took those photos! But.... I am not selling that F5, and it was sold through Cotten Music.
    I even wrote that discription!
As a warning, I have been nearly scammed by crooks on a couple of deals that I have bought on ebay. I purchase, then some crook emails all the other bidders with a "second chance" bid.
    Warning... be very careful.
BTW, that Brentrup was a demo, Hans told me that himself.
AND.... I think that sale is a fraud.
Thanks for being so diligent guys, Ken

I emailed the seller, asking him how old the mandolin was. I expected him to say it was just a few years old, but he actually gave me a date when it was built: 1941.

(It looks like you'd better hang on to that vintage pre-war Brentrup, Ken.)

By the way, that ole8string user ID is not Ted Wigglesworth. I think you will remember that Ted's feedback on Ebay was terrible and very psychotic in some of his responses! That user ID is actually Dale. Dale has more than one Ebay user ID and that one is him.

I thought you might get a kick out of that one Hans! (This being a '41 makes it exceptionally rare, given your birth date, huh?)

Re "ole8string" bidding on this, I guess that our good ole friend Dale is still with us when it comes to messing with eBay scammers. (And I'm guessing his high bid is a lot more than $999.99!)

ken, your table is becoming as famous as Larry Wexer's red leather couch...as soon as i saw that ebay listing, i thought to myself, dang, that sure looks like ken's table. you guys beat me to the warning posts.
i just had the same thing happen to me last week with the Kentucky Dawg. i wonder if this is the same seller? he seems to be after our MAS addiction.
the first clue to me was the red spruce, german or italian spruce top.....so which was is it my man?

These ebay scams both actual and illegal postings with the 2nd chance offer seem to be increasing in not only instruments but even big ticket items like vintage cars! One thing to look for other than the 0 feedback is the item location. This one says: Good luck! USA. When you question the location you find out it's in England or Italy. Then you get the "send money by wire" and don't tell them what it's for to avoid duty taxes. Yeah right!
If the seller won't give you were he has it in the description beware! Second: the seller is only running this one item at this time. This allows him to make a quick exit with ebay after getting the money on item. The scammers are getting more clever with computer hacking and stealing photos from anywhere.

Well, I got an email this morning from my new best friend "Sokolov Malvey," the wonderful man who has agreed to sell me this 1941 Brentrup for $17,000, thereby ending the auction early. He is located in England, and has offered to go 50/50 with me on the shipping, which is pretty decent of him. The only thing holding this transaction up is that I asked him if he wanted that in Confederate bills or Yankee dollars. Man, that Brentrup's hands have got to be really tired after making mandolins for 60 years. Frank

I asked him for the year and told hom I have been looking for one for a while and the wait list is too long. Lets just keep baiting him along until we tell him his payment is at Western Union and he can waste his time.

I bid on an instrument a week or two ago, didn't win; in fact I was about fourth from the top. So I start getting emails telling me the sale had fallen thru, and I could have the mandolin for my high bid.

Went to the ebay site and emailed the seller - surprise, it was a scam. Sale complete, no problems.

This week I won an auction for a mandolin in England. Seller was brand new to ebay. He emailed me a bunch of photos, though, so I suspect he actually had the mandolin in hand. I'm hoping I will, as well, someday soon.

Bob - I hope it was not from a similar auction. This guy will also email photos, but he ripped the photos off. Frank

Thanks Frank. This was for an old bowlback, kind of obscure, which is why I suspect they're legit. Time will tell, of course.
