    Question F style for parts?

I have seen beautiful Guitar lamps where the top is made of Stained Glass. I wish to make an F-Style mandolin into a lamp. Hence, I am looking for a damaged instrument where either the top is not installed or its is damaged so I can remove it. I can go buy a real cheap F-Style for $150 but that's way too much for something I'll be taking the top off of.

    Any ideas? Sources?

Would be a good time to try some Lutherie skills. Get bare wood and make what you want

I have bought 3 F styles off eBay no more than $30 everyone needs a neck reset 1 Rogue and 2 Johnson just keep looking they show up sooner or later, i see some they want way too much i just let them pass. Good luck, I've used a guitar for a lamp stand before a mandolin would work just as good

Look for a damaged Nugget. Shouldn't be more than a couple hundred bucks.

I love that idea! I may have to make one too. Good thing we don't play string bass

You have just given me an idea, I cut out some mandolin necks and tops to make a "Look alike" mandolin to put on my mail box but never got it finished so now I know what I can do with those pieces that I cut out, I never carved them to any graduations just flat but they should make a nice lamp....

    Thanks for the idea....Willie

They may be a bit bright, so a lower watt bulb may be needed.

You gotta admit, it does look nice, can't think of a better way to utilize an old mandolin...

My daughter is a flute player and her husband a bass player. I made lamps from an old flute and a cello for them. Flute on a mic stand so it is adjustable. Lamps are great ideas and gifts.

Everyone knows you get a lot more bang for the buck with an A style lamp. The scroll on an F style lamp doesn't add anything at all to the overall brightness, and they cost twice as much.

Thanks Don Yeah you are right....but I'm partial to the F style...even though it will make the stained glass work more of a challenge as well.

When I posted that I thought a mandolin lamp was a good idea, this is what I was imagining, not the stained glass. That sounds gorgeous, but not something I'd want to tackle.

I've starting using flatwounds on a lot of my lamps. It seems to help

(Joking aside, this does sound like a fun project)
