Finally got up the nerve to post this message.
I just started playing the mandolin in February, and I am absolutely in love with the instrument.
I have played flute, guitar, and HD in the past.

This site is a godsend, and I am really thankful for it.

    To get to my point:
I am interested in information on local pickers and teachers.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

I'm about two hours to your SSW. Pardon my ignorance, what is HD?

    I live in Cleveland, Ohio.
    HD stands for hammered dulcimer.

I keep hearing that your playing can improve greatly by playing w/ others, so I am interested in jamming w/ others (I would be a newbie at this) and was also wondering if anyone knew of any teachers in my area.

Again, any info would be appreciated.

    mandogal,

I'm in Cleveland Hts and teach workshop type lessons (for 2-3 hours at once, come back every 3-6 months) because my schedule doesn't permit teaching weekly. #However if weekly lessons is what you want I would be glad to recommend someone. #Please email me if you are interested for more info (sethro11@aol.com)

Regarding jam sessons, I'd recommend joining Folknet whose month newsletter 'Continuum' provides a comprehensive listing of jams, concerts, dances etc in NE Ohio. #You can find them on the web...I think the URL is www.folknet.org.

    Welcome, Mandogal!

I'm in Chardon Ohio. You know, with all the snow.
    Check out www.Buckeyebluegrass.com
There are some jams listed and a message board, lists of Ohio festivals, Band pages and more!
You'll see there's a couple jams in the area you could try.
I think Seth could certainly hook you up with a teacher.
    Good luck!

20 years or so ago, I used to go to a picking party held at Goose Acres, a Cleveland shop, with my Grandfather. I know the shop is still there; I don't know if they still host the jam.

Yes they do, Eugene. I believe it's the second Saturday of each month, or something like that. Check out www.gooseacres.com --you can then give them a call to find out about the jam.
