The sample clips sound great--very much in the old Planxty mould. I look forward to hearing the whole thing. Will it be available via iTunes?
Just one guy's opinion
Also waiting for iTunes availability. Meanwhile, I think I'll catch his live act again in November at a venue near me. He is a charming person and it is a treat to watch him for 2 hours.

I'm a long time Andy Irvine fan, but I'll admit that I like his playing better than his singing, generally... is this new album mostly singing? playing? a mix?

The fascinating thing about his singing is that he can do it while playing most complicated accompaniment at the same time. Juggling with tones.

I do appreciate the skill... but still prefer his instrumental work...can anyone who has heard the recording chime in?

Looking forward to getting it. I do wish he would tour the US more. I was in Nova Scotia a few years back, and missed him there by something like a week...Er.

Andy is not an intrumentalist, though he does do instrumental pieces. on this you will have 'East at Glendart' and 'Norwegian Mazurka'. If they are anything like the classic's on Rain on the Roof like sulimin kopanista, then you will have a wonderful addition to your learning and listening. I still love p[laying this tune 10 years later.
To be honest, I think his voice sounds better on this than it ever has. Many of the songs have been tested out live over the past few years some and some like,'Victory at Lawrence' which he has only played a few times I believe explore a different tuning for Andy, and the track is a powerful piece and enough to make the hair on the back of your neck rise as he sings and plays.
Since Donal Lunny is almost ever thrack also, what more could any Bouzouki/ cittern/ mano nut wish for !
If you haven't yet seen him live, well he is in his mid 60's now and sounding BETTER than ever. Take the chance and see him play.
Buy the album !

I'll see him on Nov. 5 in Hattingen and, if his CD is not on iTunes by then, I'll buy it there.

SO EXCITED! Andy is one of my biggest musical influences on the bouzouki. i could use a new album to listen to![]()

I saw him in St Canice's Cathedral, Kilkenny, during Arts week this year and had the pleasure to interview him for the Festival.

Lovely interview there, pgb - loved the sound of Irish wind around the microphone - and I do hope that doing the interview on a cemetery was way premature!![]()

It was good.
Andy seems very relaxed.
He's got some gigs in the North of Scotland in about a month, so I'll try and catch him.

The graveyard is outside the Cathedral where he played, a fantastic venue, I've seen Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill there too. The seats will leave you sore but the sound is magnificent. I happened to know the guy doing the social media promotion for the Arts Week Festival and said to him would he ask Andy a question for me and he called back and asked would I do the interview. I have no experience in interviewing and it was simply a conversation. We recorded 35 min of video but they would only show 10. Highlight of the gig was a haunting rendition of Moorlough Shore.
I saw Andy at the end of last month at the Wadebridge Folk Festival (UK). He was great, of course.
Seeing him again in Letchworth on 29th of this month.
The new album is mostly songs. It includes "The Close Shave" which is a hilarious take on the old song "Barrack Street" AKA "Patrick Street".
I'm not a huge fan of some of Andy whinier, more wistful vocals, but on the humorous songs and social/political stuff, such as the Guthrie-inspired stuff, he freakin' rocks the room. Fortunately for me, these days he doesn't do too many of the wrist-slitting "As I Roved Out" kind of songs.
Don't get me wrong, it's all good stuff, but an evening of the slow dirges would be to much.
Last month his set was full of the (IMHO) good stuff. I haven't enjoyed a gig so much in ages.
I'll deffo be getting the CD. He'll probably be selling some at the gig on the 29th. I'll probably grab one then, and try to snatch a quick word with the man.
A hero.
He does seem to have a bit of trouble with the electrics in his Sobell guitar-zouk. There's a vid on YT of him cursing it mid-song as it keeps cutting out. Same thing happened at Wadebridge and he ended up playing into a mic instead.
Lovely instrument though.

he used to use sunrise pick ups I believe but recently changed them over to K&K PICK UPS, sounds much nicer and more acoustic feeling to it.
enjoy
Update - saw him last night here in Germany and was blown away again - this man is pure happiness. After we clapped him into his second encore, he asked "any requests?" and I shouted "Baneasa's Green Glade" and play it he did.
I bought the CD, of course, and it plays this very moment.
Thanks to the OP for the heads-up!

Bertram, I'm so jealous! I need Andy to tour Canada!!!
