I a related vein, does anyone how we can go about recording say 30 seconds of our own playing (of a public domain tune) and making that the ringtone on our phone?

I found a program on the net to make my own ringtones. I forgot where it is, but if you google them, you can find them.
I have three different ringtones for people in the three different bands I'm in.
If a person calls from one band, then a certain ringtone from our cd plays for them. Same with the other bands I'm in. Then for my wife, I have a recording of a song I wrote for her.
If you google them, you can find programs to do it. It's easy.

It might be an interesting feature to have on the cafe as long as the ringtones are PD songs.
I would love to have a ringtone of "My Last Days on Earth"! Any clues where?
