Youtube audio download procedure?

Sorry - this is a cross post from the software support forum...but I thought some of our Celtic players might provide some help who would not normally read that forum...

Hi - I found some great short mandolin clips posted by Ptarmi on Irish and Scottish tunes on Youtube. I would like to download the audio portions so I can us the amazing slowdowner software to help me learn the tunes.

How can I download the audio portion of a Youtube video to my computer as an mp3 file?

One option that I find useful (free) is vdownloader
It has options to select the preferred download format, including mp3.
It won't download all clips from You Tube, not sure why, but if another downloader, for example RealPlayer, is used Vdownloader can extract the soundtrack from the downloaded video.
