Default So, how much for a vintage Gieb case for my Gibson A?

I have the vintage case for my Gibson A (a Gieb chipboard that works pretty well), but I would like to get a vintage shaped hard case. How much should I expect to pay? This one is too much, right? http://www.ebay.com/itm/201166599573...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Yeah, we both missed our chances on Scott's case at $95.00.

That one seems in the ballpark of acceptable $$, imo.

Yep, I think so too. Can't go to the store and buy one off the shelf, this even has the key.

I guess the $195 initial bid works, especially with the cost of new cases...decisions, decisions.

By the way, though it is exactly the same size as a modern chipboard case, my Gieb case is much stronger: made with thicker card stock, with a nice faux-leather covering, good hinges, 3 brass latches. It is fairly worn, but still works.

That one was priced about right. You can find the purple flannel ones for a bit less sometimes, but $150-275 seems to be the range

I clicked on the eBay link and it seems he relisted it with a Buy It Now of $155 and it sold. Hope you got it, Capt. E

No, the re-list and BIN happened in 15 seconds after the original auction closed. Someone must have called and made an offer. I almost bid the $195 minimum, but with $25 shipping and the condition of the case, it was too much for me...even $170 (add the $25) would have made me think hard. There will be another one. In the mean time, my Gieb "Champion" case that my Gibby came in will do. I wrap it a hand towel to keep it from moving around too much.

By the way, what would you call the "Champion" case I have? It isn't chipboard, but thick cardboard with a faux leather cover. Maybe its the OCBC.

I've upgraded some cases by buying a similar instrument, switching out the cases, then selling the instrument again. It's a little work, but in the end you usually end up with either a free case or having very little in the upgraded case.

The original cases are not the greatest for practical purposes. I use TKL arched and shaped for all my mandolins including my vintage Gibson. I have the original case but it got sort of mildewy so it sits in the closet for if and when i do sell mine -- prob one of the last to go tho when I can no longer play.

Apparently about any amount someone wants to sell one for, not being glib, just voicing "market value" terms. If you want one $95.00 bucks worth there you have it, if you are willing to pay $200.00 then there's market, am I wrong?

Perfectly correct. Price is relative to how much you need it. If I come upon a very clean example, I'll jump on it. I have a couple of modern cases that work well to protect. I have a great Access rectangular. A big disadvantage to the vintage shaped cases is how little storage room there is.
Buy another instrument and swap cases is always there. I have done that before.

BTW Capt... not to be too much of the stickler, but the correct spelling of the vintage case company is Geib. Lots of info here on Steve Kirtley's site.

I looked at Steve Kirtlers site and there is a guy who has spent some time learning about cases! Strong work Mr. Kirtler!

Ok, corrected. Probably due to the I before E except after C jingle. Geib is another exception, being a proper name. Actually I think I am a victim of autocorrect.

Spell check constantly "corrects" things which I have spelled correctly!
