Default John Moore on YouTube - Mandolin workshop.

I only just came across these clips. - so just in case you haven't seen them,John Moore ( tutor to he who shall not be named ie. C***s T***e) has these workshop clips on YouTube.
I had the pleasure of seeing JM when he came over with Bluegrass etc. a long while back - but as they say 'once seen, never forgotten' he was incredible both on Mandolin & Guitar. Needless to say,all clips now reside on this humble strummer's PC,

I've watched 3 of them so far. Looks like a great experience.

I haven't seen him in person, but he is one of the best, 'least known' instrumentalists. A real super picker.

Bob - I wouldn't say that he's the 'least known' by any means, but he's certainly not 'up front' with many of the other players on the scene. He's a clip of JM with the band 'Greenbroke' playing as sweet as you'll ever get (IMHO), & watch the awsome Denis Caplinger
pick that Banjo. I saw these guys over here maybe 12 years ago, & they were incredible,

Aparently he´s over here in Europe fairly often (on horse training seminars). I remember memorable concerts with BG etc. and California in the 90ies.

Thanks Ivan, that is good music! John Moore was 'least known' to me until about 10 years ago, but I haven't always kept up with everyone.

One of the best mando workshops I ever attended was by JM. He spent most of the time talking about horse training, and in my hungover state, I was a little annoyed. Then, at the end, he pulled it all together, and I was blown away. Almost bought his horse training book as a result. Crazy.

BTW - is it possible to download youtube clips? I didn't know that was possible.

TBone - I use 2 internet browsers on my PC - Internet Explorer v6 & Mozilla Firefox. Several months ago i downloaded & installed RealPlayerSP (Free) onto my PC. When i watch a YouTube clip,a little box pops up which says "Download this video". Now if i go onto YouTube using the much newer Firefox browser,it won't allow me to record a clip using the FREE version of RealPlayerSP,it prompts me to pay for RealPlayerSP Plus. However,if i go onto YouTube using IE v6, i'm told that my browser is out of date. Nevertheless,i can 'continue to video' as it tells me, & if i select 'download this video' it downloads it to a RealPlayer folder on my PC.
There is also another way of saving YouTube clips by using KEEPVID - again easier in IE v6 than Firefox. Go to the KEEPVID website & using 'Ctrl D',save it to your 'favourites' . Go to YouTube & select your clip.Click on 'share' so that the clip's URL shows, copy it,go to the KEEPVID site, paste in the URL,click 'Download' & then select which of the offered formats you want the clip to be in - sometimes there's only one sometimes more.
There are quite a few YouTube freeware downloaders on the I'net, but KEEPVID has worked well for me in the past, but using RealPlayer with IE v6 is a cinch.
As a bonus,if you listen to Internet Radio as i do every day using RealPlayerSP to do so,in the bottom left hand corner of the screen,is a little red 'button',which,if you left click on it,it will record the track being played to your PC,

Can anybody comment on John Moore's mandolin that he plays? I heard he plays a Kentucky?! Is this true? Sure sounds awesome in his capable hands if it is the case!

John has made a lot of great music with some modest instruments...a mid 70s D35 and a Kentucky. Several years back he got a new laquer Gibson Fern (not a vintage one). That was what he was playing the last time I saw him

In fairness, John's horses consistently place highly at Galax and Winfield.

    From YouTube:

As I recall from lessons at Sorrento 7 or 8 years ago, John was playing a Flatiron mandolin.

John has been a force on the mandolin for years and years. Clean, fast, musical, the whole shebang. I liked Berline, Hickman and Crary as a unit, but always felt the trio was lacking a bit. There was a brief period when they went to Now They Are Four with the added bass. When California came about, it became a full and much better band, imo.

I saw John Moore with Bluegrass Etc too, and it would have been also about 12 years ago. We travelled over from Sheffield to somewhere in Lancashire or Cheshire for the gig. John Moore seemed to have better notes on his mandolin than the ones I had on mine, and to my amazement, he never looked down at what his hands were doing. Also in the band was Dennis Caplinger, who played banjo and fiddle, if I remember rightly. Anyway, it was great, and I bought their CD.

Thanks Ivan for your post. I just watched all the videos of that series straight through. I was going to ask if anyone knows about where to get the papers he was handing out online. But thanks to mjb128wv he provided a link.
    Thanks
