Default Need help finding information on fiddle

Well ive been playing with a great friend of mine here on the cafe FlightMedic and he has let me borrow his fiddle. Now this is all new to me and i really dont know to work the bow. But my question is what is this fiddle worth. I told him i would find out for him.

    Its a 1922

    This is in the label

    Copy of Stradivarius ,

    John Friedrich & Bros

    It says New york, N . Y

    Grade number 25 (4440) anno. 1922

Grand prize & Gold metal , St Louis worlds exposition, 1904

    All information would be great

This one seems to be the closest match I could find, also a 22, a #25 as well and only a couple serial numbers away at $2500: http://www.violinviolacello.com/Page...richViolin.htm

Here's another at 3k, that also includes some more info about the maker in the listing...

That $2500 seems a good rough estimate, and is pretty typical for a turn-of-the-century Strad copy.

Bear in mind that it can be a slippery slope appraising a violin not having it in hand. As noted, Friedrich was a restorer, importer, dealer and maker. Was this instrument imported or made by him? Who knows. If your friend is serious about what it is worth, he/she should take it to a qualified violin shop and have at least a verbal appraisal. A good violin guy can prob tell you country of origin, whethern it was made by Friedrich or what. I would not go by anything on the Internet for value.
