    Question Doug Clark mandolins

    Hello everybody,
First time poster here, so go easy on me please!

I recently purchased the attached Doug Clark F-5 mandolin. Pictures do the flame no justice, it is stunning. I have no idea whether it is a good or great mandolin, but I do know that I love the way it sounds and feels, and that is all that matters (to me at least). After 3 unsuccessful attempts at mandolin since 1984, I went for #4. And this one is gonna stick... it just has that undefinable mojo.

Anybody else have any pictures or information about Doug Clark mandolins they'd care to share? Information on the internet is pretty sparse. I'd love to see/hear more!

That is a beautiful mandolin. I have never played a Clarke, but it looks to have every chance of being amazing.

Like Frank Sinatra said about New York - if you can make it there you can make it anywhere - if you can do it on that Clarke, you can do it on any mandolin.

Congrats on the nice mando! Weren't you a bit nervous balancing it on that stool like that? Seems like Carters or Gruhn had one for sale. Maybe they could give you some info.

Nice mandolin. Doug Clark is a North Carolina builder, around Asheville I believe. The couple that i have played were pretty nice mandolins. Will Hart with the King James Boys Currently plays one. Lucy Lindblom has some youtube videos of her playing one. Darren Nicholson formerly of Balsam Range used to play one.

To totally change the subject, what’s the SC guitar in the background? The sound-hole and end of the fretboard suggest it’s a TR but the SCGC logo is in the wrong place.

Thanks for the information so far! To answer some previous questions:
~ While the mandolin balanced nicely on the stool, I would never leave it like that unattended, fear not!
~ I purchased it from Carter Vintage Guitars. There was an incredible coincidence as the transaction was unfolding, which made the mandolin seem like my destiny. Having spent 14 summers outside of Asheville as a youngster, knowing the builder was from a similar area sealed the deal.
~ The SCGC is a 2002 Vintage Artist. Killer, killer acoustic. A keeper for life if I ever had one.
