I read a post at Folk of the Wood recommending an Orrico tailpiece for an OM. I have a Johson 550. Anyone have any thoughts about it?
Thanks,
Brian

Orrico tailpieces are very nice. Ken Ratcliff puts them on most of his Silverangel mandolins. Check the Silverangel Myspace site shown in my sig block to see some Orrico tailpieces.

Very nice design. Looks old and modern at the same time. Many choices, though. I like the looks of the Hamlett.

The Orrico's look nice, but there is a great argument for going with an Allen TP on an OM. They will take loop or ball end strings without modification. That has been a huge help to me with my OM, both experimenting with different string gauges and finding single string replacements. Guitar strings are much easier to come, in wider selections and sometimes at better prices. Ball ends are easier to change, too.
FWIW, My re-designed tailpieces will accept ball end strings as well as loop end. I was thinking of OM and 'cello owners!![]()

Thanks, everyone, for the feedback. I just checked out the Hamlett tailpiece - the design is great! I like the ball/loop option. I think I've made up my mind. B
