hey....the great folks over at the Unofficial Martin Guitar forum pointed me over here....looks like a friendly place.

I'm a guitar player of 7 years and just now got interested in the Mandolin. I got a Breedlove Quartz OO yesterday for my birthday and am having a blast. I've been trying to voice out chords and I think I'll paruse over the chord section here at the site sometime this weekend....but I like figuring stuff out on my own too (I'm knida stubborn that way)

anyway, I recorded a clip of a song I wrote (guitar and vocals) and I played my Breedlove over it just to see how it sounds. Nothing fancy, but I'm excited. Check it out if you want

mp3 of me and my Breedlove (and my voice and guitar hehe)

    see y'all around!

Hey soups41 - welcome to the wonderful world of mandolin and its very own café. I'm sure you'll find plenty of help and nice people over here - mnay of whom, myself included, are reformed guitarists like you.
Your song is great and the mandolin sounds pretty neat after just one day!! The first 25 years are the hard bit, after that it's a doddle!! (I've been playing 10 years)

Great sound clip! You are a fine singer and your mandolin playing is very nice, especially considering your short "tenure" on the instrument. You used it to good effect to enhance that tune.

    Welcome to "Mando World!"

Welcome Chris. Your clip was great. You should advance quickly. Your vocals remind me of Rich Mullens.

Soon that Mando will take over & you will find your guitar in the corner gathering dust! Then Mas begins lol

That sounds great. Nice song, good vocals, and nice mandolin playing. Thanks for sharing it.

I couldn't agree more. I played the classical guitar for ten years, picked up the mandolin and have hardly toughted the guitar for the last five years. I guess it is a common occurence. The mandolin is very, very addictive.

Welcome to the mandolin! I cant listen to your clip on my computer but the praise youve recieved makes me wish I could. When I first picked up a mandolin, my guitar definitely went into the corner for about 2 years. Kepp playing!

    Welcome aboard, Soups!

Don't listen to what everyone says about mando-addiction. I've been playing over a year now, and am having no problems whatsoever.

I chose to upgrade my axe ... three times, and I can put down the mandolin anytime I want to!

P.S. I'm looking forward to hearing your MP3, but I don't have speaks on my work box. (I've been known to post many a useless MP3 for the Cafe, so I like to listen when others do the same)

hey- thanks everyone! #I hope my mandolin doesn't take over my guitar (i have 8 so that would just be a waste # )

but anyway, I'll definitely keep strumming away. #Actually, that clip has a Collings in it too (a 6-string). #I'd love to get a Collings Mando someday

    take care y'all

Benigus speaks the truth. I've been playing mando for about 6 months now (and guitar for over 30 years) and I've only upgraded my mandolin once in that entire 6 months. I went from a Johnson A-Style to a Breedlove KO style at christmas courtesy of my wonderful wife.(Arn't those Breedloves sweet!?)

As far as guitar aquisition I'm also in total control. I have only 6 of them. OK, I also have a Chapman Stick, a Sitar, a few harmonicas, a few traditional flutes, some Native American Cedar flutes, and several mountai dulcimers. But the mountain dulcimers are ok because I build them, I'm just "aquiring them". Hey, I've even sold off a couple of guitars (which means I've actually owned 8 of them. Hmmm. maybe I do have an instrument aquisition problem )

In any case, have fun with your new instrument. And check out Bert Casey's book "Mandolin Primer". I think it will help you continue your quick jump start into the world of mandolin.

I haven't had a guitar for ten years..just bought one...
It's been taking me away from my mando!...not good

Soups41..once you have the mando..then you start thinking..boy a mandola or an octave mandolin, sure would sound nice!...
    Then you have issues!.......welcome!

Soups! Great tune! Thanks for putting yourself 'out there'. I wish I had gotten that far my first day on mando.

I've been preparing press kits this week for a little US tour I'm doing this May and June, and this damn mando is making everything late haha

thanks for the kind words....I'm planning on doing some recording this coming week (hopefully I'll get better) and I'll post some tunes....

You're right though, I just can't put this thing down
