Repair recommendation in Chicago or central IL

Something is wrong with my bridge and I guess I will need to get some work done (probably have it replaced?). Might look at getting a pick up installed while I am at it. I've got no idea who does good work in the area - either in the Chicago area or central IL, as I swap between the two often. I'd appreciate any input.

We're not far from there in Nashville, Tn. We travel there a few times a year since my oldest son and his family live in the big town of El Paso, Il and my mother in law in Geneseo, Il. We won't be there again until April or May though.

DonQ, I can refer you to 2 luthiers in north central IL. I know 1 in North Aurora and 1 in Sheridan and could recommend them both.

Oddly enough, I had this same question and had the opportunity to ask Mr. Don Stiernberg. He recommended trying Cremer Guitarworks...

I've not tried them yet but will do so in the near future. My Duff could do with a haircut

I can heartily recomment Rick Cremer in north aurora. i have used him on several occasions as have others here in the Cafe. PM me if you have any questions.

Ditto on the recommendation of Rick Cremer. I have used him several times for mandolins and guitars. He is very attentive to detail and reasonably priced.

DQ, I was in Rick's shop yesterday afternoon and i gotta tell ya, He will drop whatever he's doing and devote his all attention to you when you walk in. Also has a lot of instruments on display, old and new, so you can feel free to jam while he's doing a setup or whatever. has a knowledgable staff who can answer any questions you may have about anything, even banjos
