    Default Fender Duo-caster into E-mando?

I'm looking at a reissue Fender Duo-caster, a 6-string electric guitar with a 22-1/2" scale length, and wondering if I could turn it into an electric mandola/octave mando sort of thing. Obviously, even with the short scale length, I'd have to fumble around a bit to figure out what gauge strings would work for fifths tuning. Has anyone out there ever tried this? Thanx!

have you looked at my recent post titled squire mini conversion. its say 21 in scale but it was actually 22 1/2 in scale the A string is a .014 and is a bit tight

Martin, thanks for that link - good stuff. I've been all over emando.com, but never to that particular page.
