Thread: Skaggs Distressed on eBay???

    Default Skaggs Distressed on eBay???

Anybody know anything about this seller? "Buy It Now" price seems high...and his claim that he only calls it "used because it's a distressed model" seems ridiculous. Description sounds like more of a sales pitch than real information.

So what do these things go for these days?

George Gruhn has one (used) for 20.000 USD. (From the Gruhn website: MF7715 Gibson Ricky Skaggs Distressed F-5 Master Model (More photos...) , 2009, M, Prototype #7, varnish finish, "side binding," handpicked by Ricky Skaggs for his personal collection, with letter from Skaggs, 1 of 30 signed by Skaggs, OHC......$20000) It seems that the provenance has something to do with the price here.

Other than that I don´t think that a used one would get more than 15.000 USD.

And in this world of choice where there are many options It surely is up to anyone to chose according to the individual taste.

As to the seller, I seem to remember other listings (was there not a cherry backed Gibson somewhere... same seller [?]). All in all the price is on the high side. With prices like these I´d just do hand to hand deals with an individual.

Other than that, there´s the "make offer" option in the ebay listing.

Both mandos (Skaggs and Cherry Master Model) will be posted here on the Cafe very soon (and probably Ebay once again)....Thanks for your interest.

Link's in Post #3, but as it was posted three years ago, it comes up empty…

Crocket in Post #4 says a re-listing is coming up.

Got it. You know I seldom look at a past date when it shows up today as being new! And I doubt I will ever get into that habit. Glad you do! So it sounds like this same RSDMM has not sold in 3 years? Wow! Must have got lost somewhere in the recession.

Well, I don't always. And it does surprise me how many old threads get resurrected, especially by new Cafe members. I put that down to the power of Google; someone has a Shmergel Devastator they want info about, they Google it, an old Cafe thread comes up, and they jump in. We assume that it's "new news" and respond, and so…

I've been surprised at how many threads along the line of "should I buy this mandolin," from, say 2009, get new postings. I always think, "Bet the OP's made his/her mind up by now."

The man who resurrected this thread appears to be the soon to be seller.
