Your table looks a bit short do you notice any snipe at the board ends? I like this idea.

I do need to be carefull on the outfeed side but I've finished my top, sides and back with no problem. If I could make one change it would be the length of the drum. As it is I cannot sand the whole width in one pass.

I went back and reread your build specs. You could turn a drum then mount your own paper. I would think that would work. A turned drum could go as wide as you want it to. Put some sand paper on your table then raise it into the drum to do the finish trueing and you'd be good to go, right?

Good idea John. I think I'll look into that for my next build. There would likely be less runout as well.

That was the process for a home built thickness sander someone posted here a few years ago. Maybe someone has a link to it. I will see if i can find it in my computer but I have lost a couple hard drives so I am not sure I still have it. I had all the cafe recipies at ne time and lost them because of a grenaded hard drive. Sucks kind of like an experimental top plate that disintigrates. Don't ask HOW I know about that.

Just a note of caution-- the *back* side of these sanders is where your fingers can get sucked in, so be careful when reaching back there, or better yet, make a guard there. I just thought I'd mention it because it may seem counterintuitive.
