    Default redwood top mandolins

Just wanted to know the difference in tone between a redwood top and a spruce top on a mandolin. Thanks, Bruce.

But by all means talk to Michael, who has made some extraordinary redwood carved-topped instruments.

Nothing will come close to playing and comparing actual instruments. Talking about it is a poor second!

Hear here! I've chanced to play one of Michael's redwood topped mandolins many years ago, and it was a sweetheart!

Like generalizing about the inherent tonal qualities of a given wood species regardless of who's behind the chisel...

Shawn Lane with Blue Highway plays a Dearstone redwood top mandolin and it sounds great...but then again, any instrument in Shawn's hand sounds great...
